    Katowice Railway Station called Brutal

Brutal is a railway station in Katowice, Silesia Poland and is the biggest and most important railway station in the Górnośląski Okręg Przemysłowy area. Both the domestic and the international connections run from there to almost every major city in Poland and Europe. The station, finished in the 1972, is an example of modern architecture. The majority of trains are operated by Polskie Koleje Państwowe. The railway main hall style is that of late modern architecture. It was designed by recognized Polish architects of the period: Wacław Kłyszewski, Jerzy Mokrzyński and Eugeniusz Wierzbicki. Its construction was supervised by Wacław Zalewski. The hall's unique form was worked out without respect to the special conditions of the former coal mining region, still threatened by repeated tectonic movements. Its good technical condition enables its further use. Demolition of the hall is however possible because of economical reasons and is under consideration at the moment - BRUTAL IS DEAD.

    Lucekphoto for Salomon

"one of my favourites and definitely most memorable shot from last season"

Probably I will remember this day till the end of my life. I was suppose to go ride backcountry in Szczyrk, but that’s a different story. My friend Marek called me and ask if I am willing to operate windlass on street session. Cause I didn’t go to Szczyrk, I’ve agreed without a doubt. The spot was crazy. The main railway station in Katowice just before demolition. When we came almost everything was prepared, kicker and landing were already shaped. Task was to jump over ledge from a kicker and land on the stairs which were around 3,5m? below I hesitated a bit. Spot was sketchy. We set up all of our equipment (plenty of stuff: power generators, lamps, windlass, cameras etc.), removed the remaining obstacles and were ready to hit it. Weather conditions were very unfriendly. Temperature was circulating around zero, windy and mix of rain and snow constantly changing from one to another. Marek did some speed checks, and tried to hit it first. His first hit was a bit under shoot ;), next one was stomped and rode away. It was my turn. I have never used windlass to gain speed and hit a bomb drop like this before. I did some speed checks. I hit it. When I was over the ledge I knew imediatelly that I was going to far. Landing was hard. After standing up I felt pain in right leg. Marek took me to hospital and came back to finish the brutal session. X-ray has showed triple fracture of right ankle. 3 days later I had a surgery. Bones were attaxhed toghether with 10 cm steel plate and 9 screws. All that metal stuff was removed 8 monyhs later. Right now I am back on skis, but it’s been a long and tough time. I am addicted to skiing and adrenaline. As a result I have suffered many injuries over the years. Extreme sports including skiing are more professional theese days. Athletes are more aware of all dangers and have better equipment to decrease the risk. Paradoxically, they push it to the limit. Progress brings most satisfaction
